This is the personal blog of Roger Hudson: Somewhere to rant and rave about things that interest me, to tell stories and share ideas. I live in Sydney, Australia, with my partner Janet and our daughter. I am interested in why people do the things they do, social justice and politics. I work as a usability and accessibility consultant, but if you want to know more about that go to the Web Usability site.
A little about me
I spent many years working in the film and television industry as a writer and director, mainly on documentary projects but also a few dramas. I was an active member of the Australian Screen Directors Association, serving as Vice President and President between 1990 and 1993. During that time, I made representations to all levels of government on behalf of the industry and participated in a number of government reviews into different aspects of the film and television industry.
In the 1990s, Jonathan Clemens and I ran a publishing company, ELS, which specialised in producing multimedia material for teaching English as a second or foreign language.
My active involvement in the Internet dates back to 1995, when I helped develop a website for our company. Later, I supervised the development of the Virtual Classroom project to explore the use of the Internet in language teaching. The Virtual Classroom trials during 1996/97 involved more than 500 students from Australia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia and the USA.
After obtaining a post-graduate certificate in Internet Marketing (1999), I established Web Usabilty and since then I have helped many corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations improve the information architecture, accessibilty and usability of their websites.
I have presented conference papers, workshops and written many articles on website usability and accessibility. I am currently President of the Web Industry Professionals Association (inc).
I am passionate about improving the accessibility of sites and the web in general.
I am no designer or developer, so I would like to thank Russ Weakley for all his help in preparing this blog and the Web Usability site.
